Understanding the Dream11 points system is the foundation of every winning fantasy team. Master it before picking your captain.

Batting Points

Batting ActionPoints
+1 pointPer run scored
+1 point (bonus)Boundary 4 runs (4 + 1 bonus)
+2 points (bonus)Six (6 + 2 bonus)
+8 pointsHalf-century (50 runs) — batting bonus
+24 pointsCentury (100 runs) — batting bonus
−2 pointsDuck (zero runs)
−2 pointsStrike rate < 20.00 (minimum 3 balls faced)
−1 pointStrike rate 20.00–50.00 (minimum 3 balls faced)

Key insight: A player who scores exactly 50 runs gives you 58 batting points (50 × 1) + 8 bonus = 58. A player who scores 49 runs gives you only 49 points. The half-century threshold is critical — always factor this into captain selection.

Bowling Points

Bowling ActionPoints
+25 pointsWicket (caught, bowled, LBW — not run out)
+12 pointsRun out (direct throw)
+8 pointsRun out (assisted / 3rd man)
+8 pointsMaiden over (0 runs conceded in an over)
+6 pointsEconomy < 5 runs per over (minimum 2 overs)
+4 pointsEconomy 5–6 runs per over (minimum 2 overs)
−1 pointEconomy 9–10 runs per over (minimum 2 overs)
−3 pointsEconomy > 10 runs per over (minimum 2 overs)
+0.5 pointsDot ball (bowler credit only, not batter)

Fielding Points

Fielding ActionPoints
+8 pointsCatch
+12 pointsStumping or direct run-out throw
+8 pointsAssisted run-out (throw/catch combo)

Captain & Vice-Captain Multipliers

The captain and vice-captain multipliers are the most important feature in Dream11. Getting this right is the single biggest factor in winning.

Captain
2× all points earned
1.5×
Vice-Captain
1.5× all points earned

Why the Multiplier Matters More Than You Think

A batsman scoring 50 runs = 58 points. Pick him as Captain = 116 points. Pick him as Vice-Captain = 87 points. Pick him as neither = 58 points.

A bowler taking 3 wickets = 75 bowling points. Pick him as Captain = 150 points. The multiplier is applied to all points — runs, catches, stumpings, everything.

"Every 1,000 fantasy points on Dream11 costs roughly ₹1 in potential winnings at the ₹10 entry level. A correct C/VC call is worth 50–75 extra points — that is the difference between top 100 and top 10,000."

Example: Jasprit Bumrah Bowling Performance

Let's calculate Bumrah's fantasy score if he bowls 4 overs, takes 3 wickets, concedes 20 runs, and takes 1 catch:

3 wickets × 25+75
3 runs per over (economy < 5)+6
1 catch+8
Total before multiplier= 89 points
As Captain (2×)= 178 points
As Vice-Captain (1.5×)= 133.5 points

Points Strategy: Grand Leagues vs Small Leagues

For Grand Leagues: Maximize ceiling. Pick players who can score 100+ points in a single match. All-rounders (who earn points batting AND bowling) give the highest ceiling. Premium bowlers on high-scoring venues are also strong picks.

For Small Leagues: Maximize floor. Pick consistent performers who reliably score 40-60 points. Safe captains and mid-range all-rounders reduce variance.
